There may be those who wonder, when reading some of the Commands: When did Jesus ever say that? I don't remember reading those words in the New Testament.

Command #15 - Repent
Tuesday Apr 14, 2020
Tuesday Apr 14, 2020
The Gospel does not come to us one-dimensionally. The teachings of Jesus, while epitomizing simplicity itself, are also intriguingly complex. The intertwining mix of "spiritual" and "temporal" commands is constantly in play. The moment we get too spiritual, Jesus hits us with the parable of the Good Samaritan, urging us simply to be good and take care of people. Not a word in the story about getting the man saved or taking him to church...just Go and do the same. Yet the moment we begin thinking that kindness toward our fellow man is enough, there is Jesus telling Nicodemus he must be "born again."

Command #5 - Love the Brethren
Tuesday Feb 04, 2020
Tuesday Feb 04, 2020
Jesus makes two of the most shocking statements of his ministry on the night before his death. They are recounted only by the Gospelist John. Though Matthew was also there that evening, it clearly took not only an eyewitness, but one like John with particular insight into the Lord's heart, to capture the powerful essence of this pivotal message that Jesus wanted to leave with his disciples on his last night with them.

COA #78 - Do Not Quarrel
Thursday Aug 08, 2019
Thursday Aug 08, 2019
The injunction against quarreling is fascinating to find among the commands, not because it comes as a surprise, but because of how completely accepted it is in the body of Christ. Is there any more commonplace relational dynamic in the church than this?

Command #48 - Do Good To Those Who Hate You
Tuesday Feb 20, 2018
Tuesday Feb 20, 2018
Jesus does not even leave it at Rejoice when you are persecuted and Love and pray for your enemies. He goes further still. The three-tiered progression of response to ill-treatment in Luke 6 is incredible and completely impractical. The program Jesus outlines is impossible by any earthly standards.

At this point you may be wondering just how many commands of Jesus are in the series. In his book, The Commands, author Michael Phillips arranged our Lord’s commands into twelve sets of ten commands each: one hundred and twenty in total. So as you can see we have but a handful of Commands left.
